Advocate Spotlight: Cheryl Cervantes

September Advocate Interview

1. How long have you been an Advocate and when did you realize you wanted to become one?
I’ve been an advocate since 2018. I was the 2018 October class and had my first case shortly after. Still working with the first group as they move closer and closer to adoption. My second assignment also went through to adoption.

2. What is the most rewarding aspect of being an Advocate?
Seeing the children’s lives impacted by positive changes, large or small. The sheer joy on their faces when you visit or when they have accomplished something they felt was too large or unattainable based on previous negative influences in their precious little lives. Climbing those big or small mountains and achieving their goals.

3. If you could offer words of encouragement to your fellow and incoming Advocates, what would they be?
You make a difference, maybe very small & difficult to see at first but keep your pace, don’t get overwhelmed and document, document, document!

CASA Volunteer Advocate, Christina Albert, was appointed to the case. She immediately contacted CPS, then reached out to the grandparents and traveled to visit the children.
